Our Corporate Governance guidelines are there to make sure that the interests of our organisation and people are protected through principles of integrity, transparency, accountability and strong leadership.
The Board of Directors is composed of Executive Chairman, Seven Executive Directors and two Non-Executive Directors. The company represents a combination of for profit and not for profit legal entities.
Our founders, Jim Cockburn (Executive Chair) and Jan Rees (Executive Director) remain closely involved to make sure that the foundations our organisation was built upon are kept strong.
Each board member brings different skillsets, experience and knowledge needed to responsibly guide our organisation towards healthy growth, without compromising our vision and values.
With a comprehensive overview of the business, it is their role to challenge the management responsible for the everyday running of the organisation to ensure that our 1000+ employees are working towards our common goal of providing quality, needs led services that make a positive and lasting difference to children, families and the community.
Jim established Foster Care Associates (FCA) in 1994 with Jan Rees, before expanding into children’s services with Core Assets Ltd in 2010 incorporating various social care services around the world. A qualified Social Worker with a Masters in Social Work, Jim has over thirty years’ experience in the social care field and is committed to bringing about better outcomes by providing quality care services for looked after children and their families.
David joined the company as Regional Director in 2003, becoming CEO of FCA in January 2007. He has been a qualified Social Worker for many years with a background in residential social work with children and young people as well as being a qualified Community and Youth Worker. David has previously worked for Solihull and Birmingham Local Authorities mainly in the area of fostering and adoption. In his time here, David has developed a range of targeted services including residential migration and specific age-related schemes for Solihull and Birmingham as well as remand fostering.
As CEO of Key Assets, Estella has developed non UK developments operating across four continents. She leads the growing international corporate team as well as heading up Core Assets research initiatives, drawing on her extensive qualifications to inform the overall strategic development. A qualified Social Worker, she has more than thirty five years’ experience working with children and families in the public, private and voluntary sectors. She has a management qualification and an MSC in applied social research.
Paul is responsible for consultancy and resourcing division of the company. Joining the company in 2004, Paul’s area of expertise included growing and developing businesses and business strategies. He has previously worked with large corporate organisations such as Mobil Oil and British Energy.
Sally is head of Children’s Services for the company. She joined Foster Care Associates (FCA) over 14 years ago and has since made a significant contribution by raising the quality standards for children and their families and improving outcomes. A qualified and registered Social Worker with 35 years’ experience of all aspects of the management task in the public and private sectors, Sally has led the diversification of the company into broader Children’s Services with measureable success in the fields of disability, contact and education services.
Jonathan has been the Group Finance Director since 2007. Having previously worked for PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC) he gained valuable experience in many areas relating to finance including auditing, assurance practice, due diligence and other deal related advisory services.
As Group Risk Director for Core Assets, Alison is responsible for monitoring and overseeing the internal and external controls of the organisation, including social care and business regulations. Alison joined the company in 2001 as Assistant Director for FCA Midlands. She has over thirty-five years’ experience in the social care field working with children, adults and families.
The methodology and approach of the team enabled us to both confirm and prioritise our improvement plan. Staff at all levels and Elected Members felt positive about the process and the real test is that the agreed priorities have been successfully and promptly implemented. The assessment left a legacy of ownership and sustainable change.
