Welcome

Sheffield’s SEN Assessment and Placement Team is committed to providing the best possible educational opportunities for all children and young people including those with special educational needs (SEN). They aim to:

  • Fully understand your child’s needs
  • Educate your child locally to you
  • Be open about the actions they take
  • Involve your child in all aspects of school life

Sheffield has 2080 children and young people with a statement of SEN. www.sheffield.gov.uk

Whilst we are still accepting referrals and attending group activities, please be aware that the Core Assets Independent Support Programme will be closing on the 31st July 2018. Independent Support was always intended to be a time limited resource, supporting the transition from statements to EHCPs. From August 2018 onwards, parents, children and young people will continue to be able to access information, advice and support on statutory assessment and annual reviews from your local SEND IASS.

Sheffield’s Approach to the SEND Reforms

Sheffield’s Local Offer is being jointly developed with parents, carers, children and young people to ensure it is written and delivered in a suitable, easy to understand manner. It will include comprehensive information about education, health and care services, transport, leisure activities, advice services and community groups. The Local Offer has two main purposes:

  • To provide clear, comprehensive and accessible information about available support and opportunities
  • To make provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations

The Local Offer will help parents and carers to:

  • Identify suitable support
  • Increase their knowledge and make informed decisions about the resources needed to enable their child to participate, and to enjoy and achieve their goals.
