North East Lincolnshire’s Special Educational Needs Support Services (SENSS) consists of teachers and teaching assistants who support children and young people with learning difficulties aged between 5 and 16 years.

The services ensure that children and young people achieve their best at school and gain appropriate support where needed. North East Lincolnshire has 545 children and young people with a statement of SEN. www.nelincs.gov.uk

Whilst we are still accepting referrals and attending group activities, please be aware that the Core Assets Independent Support Programme will be closing on the 31st July 2018. Independent Support was always intended to be a time limited resource, supporting the transition from statements to EHCPs. From August 2018 onwards, parents, children and young people will continue to be able to access information, advice and support on statutory assessment and annual reviews from your local SEND IASS.

North East Lincolnshire’s Approach to the SEND Reforms

North East Lincolnshire Council has a clear vision on implementing the SEND reforms consisting of the following:

  • Children’s SENs are picked up early and support is put in place quickly
  • Staff have the knowledge, understanding and skills to provide the right support for children and young people with SEN or who are disabled
  • Parents know what they can reasonably expect their local school, college, LA and local services to provide, without having to fight for it
  • Aspirations for children and young people are raised through an increased focus on preparation for adulthood to achieve key life outcomes of independent living and employment
  • An integrated assessment and single Education, Health and Care Plan is put in place from birth to age 25 for children with more complex needs
  • Greater control for parents and young people over the services they and their family use.
